Facts & figures

connectivity

The AMA is often referred to as the Gateway to Europe, both digitally and physically. This is because:

  • The Netherlands is one of the most wired countries in the world
  • 11 out of 15 European submarine cables come ashore here
  • The datacentre is connected directly to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX)
  • Multiple routings are used to strengthen network redundancy
  • Flexible cable zones

power

The campus is close to a 200 MW power station, while the energy network is owned by the Dutch government. The key benefits of this are:

  • It’s the most reliable energy grid in Europe
  • Its availability is rated at 99.9943%
  • Low-cost energy

risk

The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is a low-risk region, home to a stable government, a favourable fiscal climate and a steady price level. Key benefits include:

  • No terrorism, hurricane or earthquake threats
  • No chemical or heavy industry in the direct vicinity of the Green Datacenter Campus
  • An extremely reliable energy network
  • The campus is situated away from the flight paths of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

scaling

Your datacenter can be quickly operational within the campus thanks to our transparent and unequivocal procedures. This holds many advantages for you, now and in the future. For example, should you wish to expand:

  • Your electricity consumption and plot size can be easily scaled up
  • Turnaround times for upscaling are transparent resulting in more accurate planning

green-hotspot

Sustainability measures have been put in place to cater to all of the innovative businesses active in the campus, while the entire area is managed using a variety of sustainable techniques. For example, more means to collect, transport and recycle residual warmth are being built, there are green roofs, solar panel arrays and an Energy hub directly available on site. We try very hard to facilitate environmentally conscious businesses.

All of the preconditions, knowledge and relevant market players are already present on site to ensure your datacenter operates as sustainably and efficiently as possible. Key benefits include:

  • Solar energy supply direct from the on-site Energy Hub
  • An outstanding climate for open-air cooling
  • Residual warmth transport options
  • A BREEAM **** (LEAD) environmental certificate covering the entire campus and business location
Green edge

Besides the obvious advantages in connectivity, the region leads the way in sustainability research and application, helping to realise increasingly low-energy datacenters, green software and digital infrastructure. In collaboration with Green IT Amsterdam we increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions by scoping, testing and investigating SMART IT solutions. Green IT Amsterdam works with more than 40 partners from across the business community, including datacenters, IT companies, energy and engineering specialists, and knowledge institutions.
