History

Local residents have traditionally referred to the area as the ‘Rutte-terrein’ (Rutte site), named after the waste disposal site located here until 2003. The site has been thoroughly cleaned up, and no traces remain of this part of its history. However, there is still evidence of another historical fact. The name PolanenPark originates from ‘Houtrijk en Polanen’, the name of the municipality to which this location belonged until the mid-19th century.

To the north, PolanenPark borders on the green buffer zone between Amsterdam and Haarlem. To the south, it borders on the Haarlemmermeer ring canal. To the west of the business park, you will find Fort de Liede, ‘De Zoete Inval’ hotel and restaurant and, last but not least, Haarlem-Spaarnwoude NS railway station with its rapid direct connection to Amsterdam.

Radiaal West – the Brettenpark

Uniquely, the business park is located next to the Radiaal West, an area currently being developed by two of Amsterdam’s urban districts. This Radiaal West, an attractive green zone spanning from Westergasfabriek to Sugar City (Halfweg), is set to be developed into the Brettenpark in the years to come. The park is designed to serve as Amsterdam’s version of Central Park, where local residents can live and work in an appealing environment. The green, recreational, and economically significant route will eventually be extended right down to the coast. PolanenPark is located directly next to the Radiaal West, and will thus benefit from the advantages of Amsterdam’s focus on further developing this zone in future.
